Somali Prime Minister Nur Hassan
Hussein yesterday presented a new transitional government
line-up to lawmakers in Baidoa for endorsement.
The lawmakers are expected to hold a
confidence in their next session.
Speaking on the occasion, Hussein expressed the transitional
government's recognition of all Somalis, irrespective of
their tribe or political affiliation.
He also unveiled an extract of his government's new policies
and strategies aimed at engaging its opponents on dialogue.
Hussein said the Somali government believes in securing
peace with the opposition so as to end the country's
long-running insurgency.
“We will focus on security, reconciliation and facilitating
humanitarian aid to those in need," he said.
The Prime Minister handed the policy document on peace
strategies to parliamentarians for careful perusal and
endorsement.
Somalia had been without an effective government since 1991.
The country has since found itself at the centre of
conflicts that cost huge loss to life and property as well
as displaced over a million people.
The country's Interim President, Abdoullahi Yusuf, was last
week flown to the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa for
treatment. This happened after he had collapsed in Baidoa,
the seat of the government.
