FIVE men have denied beating a Somali teenager to death
in a Liverpool park.
Ahmed Mohamed Ibrahim suffered fatal head injuries after
being attacked in Sefton Park last March, yards from his
home in Brompton Avenue.
The 17-year-old died just nine months after fleeing his
native Somalia to start a new life in the city.
He had had an emotional reunion in Liverpool with his
mother Asiya, who had left war-torn Mogadishu a year
earlier.
She attended Liverpool Crown Court yesterday and watched
from the public gallery as five men were charged with her
son’s murder.
Khadar Mohammed, 22, Essa Mohammed Ismail, 21, Ali
Mohammed, 19, all of Ritson Street, Liverpool; Ibrahim
Ahmed, 22, of Northbrook Road, Liverpool and Ahmed Kayse
Ahmed, 29, of St Mary Street, Greenwich, London, all pleaded
not guilty to murder. They also denied violent disorder on
the previous day.
Khadar Mohammed, Essa Mohammed Ismail and Ali Mohammed
also entered not guilty pleas to wounding with intent to
cause grievous bodily harm.
All the men appeared at court via video-link from prison
to enter their not guilty pleas. The Recorder of Liverpool,
Judge Henry Globe, set a trial date for October 27. It is
expected to last up to six weeks.
All the men were remanded in custody.
At the time of his death, Ahmed was studying at Liverpool
Community Centre and worked part-time at medical nutrition
firm SHS International, at Wavertree Technology Park.
