Ahmed Mohammed captured
a pair of medals at the B.C.
High School
Track and Field Championships in
Burnaby last weekend, two
of the six won by male athletes from local schools.
Mohammed won a gold
medal in the 2,000m steeplechase title Saturday by almost
four seconds over Dylan Haight of Oak
Bay. Mohammed, of
Fleetwood Park
Secondary School, was also the silver medalist in the
3,000m, finishing two seconds back of Luc Bruchet of Elgin
Park.
Cam Mitchell of
Fleetwood Park had to settle for second in the 800m race,
after he couldn’t hang on to the lead he took with 200m to
go, and was overtaken by James Clark of Thomas Haney in the
last 100m.
“I knew it was going to
be whoever guts it out in the last 100,” said Mitchell, who
was pleased with his time of 1:55.72. “He (Clark) is the
champion, he ran a good race.”
A throw of 50.13 meters
by Gurinder Dosanjh of North
Delta
Secondary School was good enough for the silver in the men’s
discus. Dosanjh was more than six metres ahead of the third
place throw, and 3.5 meters behind winner Angus Taylor of
Vancouver College.
Darcy Achari of North
Surrey won a bronze medal in the men’s 400m, as did Imrose
Baga of Fleetwood
Park in the men’s
shot-put
