Popular soft drink company
Coca-Cola recently enlisted rapper K'naan to create a track
for a marketing campaign in support of the upcoming 2010
FIFA World Cup.
The Somali-Canadian rapper reworked his single, "Wavin'
Flag", which originally appeared on his 2009 album
Troubadour for the project. It has been re-named, "Wavin'
Flag (Coca-Cola Celebration Mix)", and will be released in
150 countries this year, as well as being used as the
centerpiece for Coke's sponsorship of this year's FIFA World
Cup.
It will be featured on all of Coca-Cola's TV commercials and
at FIFA World Cup Trophy Tour events.
On the track, K'naan invites futbol fans to express their
optimism and passion for the sport through active dance
celebrations in the run-up to the 2010 FIFA World Cup in
South Africa.
"It's so exciting to be part of this epic journey and see
Africa's excitement for the FIFA World Cup first hand,"
K'naan, who was born and raised on Somalia, said of the
experience.
The partnership officially started in Mexico City last month
with a concert for EXA FM at La Plaza De Toros, where K'naan
performed in front of 50,000 people.
In addition to this musical partnership, K’naan is currently
performing "Wavin' Flag" in 13 African countries, including
Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and South Africa, as part of the
FIFA World Cup Trophy Tour by Coca-Cola. The tour will see
the tour visit 89 Cities in 86 Countries during a nine-month
134.017 kilometer journey, including every country in
Africa.
